NIPCO Gas

Driving Nigeria’s Transition to Natural Gas

NIPCO Gas Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of NIPCO Plc, is at the forefront of expanding access to cleaner, affordable, and locally available energy across Nigeria. While NIPCO Plc incorporated in 2001 and based in Apapa, Lagos, is a key player in Nigeria’s downstream sector, its foray into the gas value chain through NIPCO Gas has established the group as a national leader in compressed and piped natural gas development. Initially, NIPCO Plc ventured into the gas distribution business as one of its verticals, focusing on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), AutoCNG, and Piped Natural Gas (PNG). To further accelerate and streamline this segment, NIPCO Gas was later incorporated as a dedicated entity to lead and expand the gas distribution business across Nigeria.

Pioneering Gas Accessibility Since 2009

Launched in 2009, NIPCO was among the earliest private companies to invest in Nigeria’s natural gas infrastructure well before gas-based mobility and decentralized distribution became a national priority. Its foundational vision was clear: to drive the widespread adoption of natural gas as an economical and eco-friendly alternative to conventional fuels.

With strategic partnerships, most notably with NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML) and deep operational expertise, NIPCO Gas has grown into a key player in the country’s gas sector. The company operates across the entire compressed and piped gas value chain, including infrastructure development, compression, transportation, and distribution to both industrial and transportation sectors.

Infrastructure Footprint and Operational Highlights

NIPCO Gas owns and operates a growing network of state-of-the-art CNG compression and AutoCNG stations across Nigeria. Key infrastructure and operations include:

CNG Compression Plants: Located in Edo, Ogun, Kogi and Akwa Ibam states, with additional capacity under development in Lagos, Ondo and Delta states.

AutoCNG Refueling Stations: Operational stations in Edo, Delta, Kogi, Ogun, Lagos, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Niger states and Abuja FCT, enabling vehicle conversions and fueling under the Presidential CNG Initiative (PCNGI).

Piped Natural Gas (PNG) Networks: Operating networks in Benin City, Ogun and Lagos state with ongoing expansion of PNG pipelines in the Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ), Oyo, and Kogi states.

CNG Distribution: CNG transported from mother stations to over 22 states, serving 7,000+ vehicles and numerous industrial clients.

Current Projects and Strategic Outlook

NIPCO Gas continues to aggressively expand its gas infrastructure, aligning closely with the federal government’s vision for increased domestic gas utilization:

Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ): Delivered a 100 MMscf/d pipeline and a 24 MW gas-fired captive power plant, powering industrial users in this key economic corridor.

Ibadan Gas Project: NIPCO Gas, in partnership with NGML, is developing an 18-inch, 80-kilometre gas pipeline from the Sagamu Interchange to Ibadan. The project is aimed at enabling piped natural gas distribution within the Ibadan industrial and commercial zones.

PCNGI Partnership: In collaboration with NGML and under PCNGI, NIPCO Gas is rolling out 35 AutoCNG stations nationwide, with many already operational in key cities.

Vertical Integration: The company also operates conversion workshops and leverages in-house fabrication capabilities, enabling seamless project execution across its value chain.

Vision and Competitive Edge

NIPCO Gas aims to be the leading enabler of Nigeria’s gas-based economy. Its unique blend of technical expertise, nationwide presence, regulatory alignment, and access to public-private partnerships provides unmatched scale and reliability in the delivery of CNG and PNG solutions.

Backed by the solid foundation of NIPCO Plc and bolstered by its own record of innovation and delivery, NIPCO Gas is not just expanding infrastructure, it is helping to shape the future of Nigeria’s energy landscape.
